Yankee Mania

Welcome!
Derek Jeter
Hey! My name is Zachary and this is my site, Yankee Mania, where I explore the games, players, and transactions of the greatest team in baseball. Hated by some but loved by others, the New York Yankees have dominated the world of sports for over a century. This year I follow their noble quest to win yet another World Series Championship. Pavano Solid in Yankee Win
By mvyb, 10.04.2007, 10:59

              Yankees 8, Twins 2
.
W- Pavano (1-0)
L- Ponson (0-1)
.
Minnesota:
Hunter: 2-3, 2B, RBI
Kubel: 1-3, RBI
.
New York:
Jeter: 3-4, 2R
Abreu: 3-5, HR (1), 4RBI, 3R
Rodriguez: 1-4, HR (5), 2RBI
.
For the first time in 2007, the Yankees actually played good fundamental baseball. The starter pitched well and deep into the game, the offense hit homers and drove in a ton of runs, the defense was above average, and the bullpen shut down the opposing team.
.
The Yanks got off to a fabulous start in the top of the first, scoring three runs ( an RBI-single by Abreu and 2-run double by Posada) off Sidney Ponson. Bobby Abreu lengthened the lead to 5-0 with a 2-run bomb in the second, and Carl Pavano went to work.

Compared to the way the other Yankee starters have pitched all year, Carl Pavano looked like the ace of the team. The great Mauer-Cuddyer-Morneau combo went 2-12 ( .165 BA) against Pavano with no runs batted in. That is a beautiful thing.
.
Pavano allowed six hits and two earned runs in his seven innings of work. He struck out two and (shock of the night!) walked no one. He left the game after throwing only 79 pitches, which is clearly very economical.
.
A-Rod continued to destroy everything in his path as he followed an Abreu RBI-single (in the sixth inn.) with a two-run opposite field homer, his fifth homer in just six games. A-Rod is the quickest Yankee ever to hit 5 homers in a season.
.
Brian Bruney and Kyle Farnsworth held down the fort in the final two innings. New York's bulpen continues to shine, and in my opinion, is the second best pen in the league (after the Twins).
.
Tonight we have Andy Pettitte versus Boof Bonser. Interesting matchup there... I hope the Yankees play like they did last night.
.
Player of the Game:
Carl Pavano
.
- pitched 7 inning, allowed only 2 runs
- walked no one, struck out 2
- was the first starter to pick up a win this year
