Hey! My name is Zachary and this is my site, Yankee Mania, where I explore the games, players, and transactions of the greatest team in baseball. Despite Johnson's Solid Start, Yankees Fall to the Mariners in Series Finale
By mvyb, 20.07.2006, 10:03

Mariners- 3, Yankees- 2
W- Lowe (1-0)
L- Johnson (10-8)
S- Putz (18)
Notable Yankee Batters:
3B- Rodriguez, 2-4 ( 1B, 2B, R)
P- Johnson: 8IP, 7H, 3R, 2ER, BB, 11K
Randy Johnson gives up 5+ runs to the Red Sox in only 5 innings of work (several months back) and picked up the win, but today, after his quality performance, he gets the loss. Johnson gave the length ( 8 innings) the Yankees needed, he held the Mariners down ( 3 runs), lowered his ERA ( from 5.06 to 4.88), and struck out a season high 11 batters. He also walked only one batter. Even though Johnson has struggled on and off this year, throwing strikes is something he has always seemed able to do. Today's start was Johnson's fourth consecutive strong performance- he is definitely heating up.
Gil Meche absolutely dominated the Yankees today, until A-Rod's double in the fifth, he was pitching a perfect game. The Yanks only scored two runs off of him on only 5 hits.
Yankee Player of the Game: Randy Johnson
