Yankee Mania

Derek Jeter
Hey! My name is Zachary and this is my site, Yankee Mania, where I explore the games, players, and transactions of the greatest team in baseball. Hated by some but loved by others, the New York Yankees have dominated the world of sports for over a century. This year I follow their noble quest to win yet another World Series Championship. Number 400 for Rivera
By mvyb, 17.07.2006, 10:16

White Sox- 4, Yankees- 6
W- Wright (6-5)
L- Garcia (10-6)
S- Rivera (21)
Notable Yankee Players:
SS- Jeter, 1-4 ( R, RBI, solo HR [6] )
3B- Rodriguez, 2-4 ( 1B, 2 RBi, R, 2-run HR [20] )
P- Rivera: H, BB, K, 2IP
The Yankees sweep the defending World Series champions at the Bronx for only the fourth time in franchise history! The Yanks out-pitched, out-hit, and out-defended the ChiSox. New York is now off to an incredible start here in the second half. With another Red Sox loss, the Yankees are only 0.5 games back in the AL East.
Derek Jeter finally homered again, the first time in 190 at-bats. Alex Rodriguez followed him by blasting his 20th over the left field fence, erasing a 1-1 tie. Miguel Cairo chipped in with an RBI single, as did Jason Giambi with a sac fly. Bubba Crosby even got into the act with an RBI double of his own.
Now, besides a botched double play by Derek Jeter and a passed ball by Jorge Posada, the Yankee defense was very good. Melky Cabrera threw Chicago's third baseman, Joe Crede out at home plate, and Aaron Guiel caught Jim Thome in front of the second base bag.
Jaret Wright pitched decently, but couldn't get out of the sixth inning. Fortunately, the New York bullpen was spectacular, getting out of multiple jams. Mariano Rivera picked up his 11th career, two-inning save ( his 400th save all-time). He is now only 79 saves behind Dennis Eckersley on the all-time list. Rivera will most likely pass Eckersley, but will he be able to over take Trevor Hoffman who is still an active closer for the San Diego Padres ( currently second on the all-time list)? I think so, but it will take a couple more seasons to find out. How healthy will Rivera be? How many save opportunities will he have with the Bombers? How long will he stay with the Yankees? It'll be fun to see, but by the time it's all over, I think Rivera will be on top of the list as the greatest closer of all time ( and a sure Hall of Famer).
