Welcome!
Derek Jeter
Hey! My name is Zachary and this is my site, Yankee Mania, where I explore the games, players, and transactions of the greatest team in baseball. Hated by some but loved by others, the New York Yankees have dominated the world of sports for over a century. This year I follow their noble quest to win yet another World Series Championship. Yankees Break Contreras' Win Streak
By mvyb, 15.07.2006, 10:11

White Sox- 5, Yankees- 6
-
W-  Farnsworth (3-4)
L- Contreras (9-1)
S- Rivera (20)
-
Notable Yankees:
-
C- Posada, 2-4 ( 1B, 1B, R, RBI)
RF- Guiel, 2-2 ( 1B, BB, solo HR [4])
P- Johnson- 4H, 3R, 3ER, 6K, 7IP

Every since he left New York, Jose Contreras has become a superstar. He hasn't lost since August, was elected to the All Star game, and was going for a record 18 straight winning decisions. Then the Yanks had their revenge. The game wasn't a blowout, like I would have wished, but nevertheless, Contreras ended up with an "L" on his season record.

Randy Johnson pitched very well, going 7 innings and allowing only 3 runs ( on 4 hits)! Going into the second half, the Yanks need Johnson to step up and pitch like the ace he was supposed to be. Kyle  Farnsworth pitched a scoreless inning, picking up his third victory. Again, if the Yankees want to make the playoffs, they need their set-up man to pitch effectively. The game got hairy in the ninth, as Rivera let two Chicago runners cross home plate, but he eventually nailed the game down.
All the Yankee batters contributed in the win- Jeter doubled and scored; Damon hit an RBI double; Rodriguez singled twice, Posada singled twice, driving in and scoring a run; Bernie hit a sac fly, Cabrera had a clutch RBI single, and Aaron Guiel hit his first Yankee homer. The Bombers pounded out ten hits off Chicago's pitching staff.

And for the cherry on top of it all, Boston lost last night (5-3) and today (15-3). The Yankees are now only 1.5 games back in the American League East.

Yankee Player of the Game: Aaron Guiel
