Yankee Mania

Derek Jeter
Hey! My name is Zachary and this is my site, Yankee Mania, where I explore the games, players, and transactions of the greatest team in baseball. Hated by some but loved by others, the New York Yankees have dominated the world of sports for over a century. This year I follow their noble quest to win yet another World Series Championship. Mussina Struggles, Yanks Fall to O's in Series Opener
By mvyb, 23:07

           Orioles 6, Yankees 4
W- Loewen (1-0)
L- Mussina (0-1)
S- Ray (1)
Mora: 3-5, 2R
Markakis: 2-5, 2 2B, 2RBI, R
New York:
Cano: 2-4, 2B, 2RBI
Jeter: 2-5, 2B, R
And the New York Yankees give away another game.... but this time, it wasn't their defense, but just their over-all lack of clutch-hitting.
Here are five HUGE situations the Yanks had tonight to break the game open in their favor.
Situation: 2nd inning. Runner on third, two outs.
Result: Phelps grounds out.
Situation: 3rd inning. Bases loaded, one out.
Result: Giambi pops out to second. Matsui grounds out.
Situation: 4th inning. Runners on second and third, two outs.
Result: Jeter grounds out.
Situation: 6th inning. Runner on second, two outs.
Result: Melky flies out to right (at least he got the ball out of the infield.)
Situation: 7th inning. Bases loaded, two outs.
Result: Cano pops out to short.
Oh yeah, and Mussina was terrible.... which didn't help matters much. The Moose totally lacked control (3 walks allowed). He could get ahead of hitters, but couldn't put them away. Five of the eight hits Mussina allowed came with two strikes on the batter.
There isn't much to be happy about, but the Yankees' bullpen did do a tremendous job. Sean Henn pitched three shutout innings, allowing only one hit.... I think he really impressed Torre and the coaches, and will be called on a lot this month. Myers and Proctor combined for two hitless innings.

Oh! And the Yanks committed no errors. That's good.
Day game tomorrow.... Igawa on the mound.... Things just might get worse.
Goat of the Game:
Jason Giambi
- Had bases loaded and only one out in the third. He popped out to second.
- left 6 men on base
- went 0-5 with a strikeout
